This space is dedicated to promoting minority and endangered languages across the globe, as well as languages for which learning resources are scant. There will be one ‘featured language’ every month, with articles, resources and online teachers available to help learners make progress in that language.
By definition, a minority language is simply one spoken by less than 50 percent of a population in a given region, state or country, while an endangered language is a language that is at risk of falling out of use as its speakers die out or shift to speaking another language.
This page is still in its fledgling stages, but I hope that, in time, it will become a platform for matching teachers of minority and endangered with language learners across the world for online language lessons, at affordable prices set by the teachers. The lessons could also be run as language exchanges between the two participants, thereby negating the need for payment. The aim is also to raise the profile of these languages, whether or not a teacher is available, as resources for less popular languages are often hard to come by.
